Painful nails, callus and corns can affect people of all ages
Calluses and corns are formed due to thickening of hard skin at pressure points over bony prominences. They are one of the most common things seen by Podiatrists, and are caused by too much pressure and often associated with friction due to footwear.
A callus is a dispersed area of thickening of the skin, normally seen on the tips of toes, ball of foot, and heels. They are generally not sore to touch. A corn is a cone shaped mass of hard callus pointing down into the skin that is painful when pressure is applied. Corns and calluses can normally be removed by our podiatrists in a single pain-free visit.
Painful toenails can be caused by several factors, including excessive thickening of the nails, ingrown nails or involuted (very curved) nails. These can occur for a range of reasons which our podiatrists can help you to recognise and adjust accordingly. We also do surgical resection of persistent painful ingrown toenails, which can provide a permanent solution to people who struggle with recurrent toenail problems.
Our team can have you back walking pain free. Call our Northcote or Howick clinics to make a time to have these painful conditions managed by our specialist podiatrists.
