Most knee injuries we see are a result of poor alignment, poor running form and weak muscles that fatigue with exercise. All knee pain involves strength and ensuring correct alignment for a speedy recovery.
Activities that are high impact and repetitive such as basketball, netball, running, football, rugby, hockey and triathlon frequently cause knee pain. With the correct management we can have you back training and competing as quickly as possible. Knee pain accounts for over 30% of all running injuries. Knee pain in children can be growth related.
The most common causes of knee pain are:
- Tight muscles - hamstrings, quadriceps, calves and iliotibial band
- Weak muscles - hip, quadricep and abdominal musculacture
- Overtraining and increasing intensity fatigues muscles and causes incorrect form
- Overpronation of the foot rotates the leg inwards
- Poor footwear
- Knocked knees
